Struggles to the top:
Marquette University is a highly ranked Jesuit university, but I didnt always think that I would make it into such a great University or a University at all. When I was younger, I was transfered from school to school because of school district changes in my area. By the time i was in 5th grade, I had attended up to three different schools all of which were in less fortunate areas of the city of Racine. The changes began taking a toll on both me and my education. It seemed like every time I began to settle into my new school the school disctrict would put me into another one. Though my parents, knowing I didnt take well to changes, fought and fought for me to stay put, the school disctrics were relentless. My last public school I attended actually wound up closing because the area could no longer financially support it. This was the last straw for my parents, so they sent me to a college preporatory school close to home. This was a huge challange for me comming from practically no schooling to homework, tests, and projects. I was completely lost and started losing hope in myself and school all together. By Freshman year of highschool I had given up in school completely and my peers and teachers had noticed. I had one teacher who would always make comments regarding how I couldnt get good grades and should just not try and participate in class discussions. A peer of mine also made a comment suggesting that i was unable to even edit a paper; small but a significant comment. These comments outraged me and pushed me harder than I ever could have imagened to prove to myself and them that I was capable of much more. My parents and teachers helped me change my life around. I eventually rose my GPA from a 2.5 freshman year of high school to a 3.5 by the end of my sophomore year. If it wasnt for my drive to better myself and my parents support I dont think that i would have made it to Marquette University. But, it just goes to show that if you lose hope, just remembering to believe in yourself and rebuilding your self confidence can get you farther than you ever imagined. With hard HARD work and a new sense of self determination and work ethic im glad I got as far as I have and intend on going father in the future and not letting anything hold me back!
So thanks for all those who believed in me and thanks to all those who didnt because you all just made me stronger!
